And now, here's the news.
Disclaimer: This is mostly copied from my journal because I'm lazy and wasn't really thinking about making this article, but people thought I should. This is more an opinion piece than the others.
Since so many people keep telling me about it, here it is.
*GENZOMAN and `briannacherrygarcia.
Drac'd (hacked and deactivated). Got their accounts back immediately. They were reactivated, no questions asked.
Both got their accounts back within hours of deactivation.

"WHAT!?"
I thought they "didn't have the tools" for reactivation. I thought that reactivation "simply can't be done." I thought that files "simply couldn't be recovered." I thought they didn't want to set precedent and didn't want to create a system in which too many people would be asking for frivolous reactivations.
"WHAT WHAT WHAT IS THIS."

Welcome to deviantART, where they tell you one thing ("It's impossible and never will happen!"), then do something else entirely
So apparently they're making it a MONTH in which you can reactivate your deactivated account.
-> A grace period was suggested by DEVIANTS, not staff.
-> Seven days was the initial grace period idea suggested by DEVIANTS, not staff.
-> Extension suggested by DEVIANTS, not staff.
-> Password requirement methods suggested by DEVIANTS, not staff.
-> Staff takes credit for everything, then still insists there's no issue, everyone has weak passwords.
No matter what, guys, it's all because our passwords were weak. Amirite?

Notrly.
Things to also note: *GENZOMAN and `briannacherrygarcia are insanely popular. IMMEDIATELY after *GENZOMAN is deactivated, suddenly the staff goes "OH BY THE WAY YOU CAN REACTIVATE NOW."
(Pssst: That blog was posted after he was reactivated.)
But we can't have our accounts back. The rest of us are fucked over.
Sure, don't get me wrong, this is great, with a great big "FINALLY!"
However, the staff takes our ideas and suggestions, and then insists continuously there's no problem.
Yeah that's why you're upping security and changing the deactivation system, right?
32 people were deactivated within a few days. The last two gets their account back. ~40 people estimated in December total. 4 attempts made on others. Several more in months passed.
All. With. The same. Story.
But clearly it's just passwords.
Remember, deviantART loves you, you stupid idiots (stop making your passwords "password"!).

Also take note of how $fourteenthstar continues to dodge talking about !gd, which was one of her alternate accounts that had this happen to it.
But hey, there's always kitties!

My friend has been harassed for a year by trolls, and now she's been hacked and deactivated. She and her friends have all posted tickets to the help desk but as her password was 'ONLY' guessed incorrectly 190-something times, IT'S HER FAULT APPARENTLY. *head-desk*
WHAT. Just WHAT.
